Sporticipate Sessions

Our recreational sport offer is entitled Sporticipate, and is the entry level programme for all students and staff at The University of Manchester.

All sessions, programmes and events are open to all abilities, specifically people who are new to the activity or complete beginners. All sessions provide equipment and the sessions are facilitated by the UoM Sport Workforce.

Sportcipate runs a full weekly drop in timetable, structured blocks of ‘Learn To’ coached sessions and regular large scale events. All are either free or at very low cost, which helps you stay fit and active during your time on campus.

Booking activities with friends

We have lots of availability across the day to play sports at our facilities across the city. You can book courts at our facilities at a time to suit you and play with a group of friends.

We have courts available at the Armitage Sports Centre or at Sugden Sports Centre giving you flexibility on when you play.  Facilities can be booked online for sessions but if you have any additional questions, you can contact the facilities for support.

Badminton Club

We are the central hub of badminton at the University of Manchester, catering badminton for all abilities at the university and beyond. Founded in 1926, the University of Manchester Badminton Club is one of the 40 sport clubs within the Athletics’ Union at the University of Manchester. We run primarily during the university academic year between September and June.

We are a non-profit Badminton England affiliated club, and run various events as part our calendar. We encourage players who are determined to improve and are highly passionate for the sport to join and play. The club offers recreational Clubnight badminton. These are open to everyone, including the public. Anyone can turn up to pay-to-play so bring along some friends!

For university students, skilled players are encouraged to trial for the Performance and Development squad roster, which is selected through a trial process at various times of the year. They train with our coaches to strengthen our competitive squads for the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) and Manchester Badminton League (MBL) matches.

Club Philosophy

The club wants to substantially increase the standard of play for competitive badminton and encourage as many people to play badminton as possible, whether or not you have never held a racquet before to having played since you were younger. Whether or not you want to play competitively or just want to play for fun or some light exercise, we want to build on our community spirit and ensure that everyone has a great time. Anyone and everyone can join and play!
