About

We have a broad range of opportunities to get involved in equestrian at The University of Manchester with everything from drop in sessions to high level university competition with our University of Manchester Equestrian Club.

All the information you need to know about equestrian should be here but if you do have any further questions, we would love to hear from you.

Equestrian Club

We are a club that welcomes horse riders of all abilities, be it your first time sitting on a horse or having ridden for years! We ride every Wednesday at John Shaw Equestrian in Urmston, with lessons and horses suitable for complete beginners up to advanced riders. The yard is easy to get to from the university, with a simple bus ride, or via car. If you are an advanced rider, we have 3 fantastic teams of varying levels available to trial for! We are a very sociable and welcoming club, every Wednesday you’ll be sure to find us at the AU events, as well as doing other activities, such as pizza nights and bowling!

We host many trips and events such as riding holidays to Amsterdam, days at the races, polo tasters and much more! This just a small idea of what we are and get up to as a club! If you’re interested in becoming a member of UMEC, feel free to drop us a message and we’ll answer any questions you may have! We can’t wait for another amazing year at UMEC!

We provide players in the University with an opportunity to develop their skills in a recreational and competitive environment that values progression and sportsmanship whilst upholding our commitment to providing a friendly, inclusive and supportive atmosphere within the Club.
