Tai Chi 

Monday 12:05-12:55pm

This gentle class focuses on accessing the well known health benefits of Tai Chi and related Qigong exercises through a meditative approach to postural alignment, relaxation, attentive movement and mindful awareness of the breath. Contact for further information.

Be Active Courses

All courses are 8 weeks long and start week commencing 16th April 2012. Some prices vary for students, staff and members of the public. (* due to the Bank Holidays and Queen's Jubilee all course on Monday and Tuesday will be shorter, this is reflected in the price when you move through to the booking site.)

Abs, Bums & Backs 

Thursday 12:00-12:30pm

This 30 minute session is perfect if you haven't got much time to work out and want a quick blast. The class concentrates on the stomach, back and buttocks.

Burn your Bingo Wings  

*Monday 11:30-12:00 noon

A 30 minute workout focused on toning and strengthening your upper arms. You will use your own body weight and light resistance bands, combines with a fun cardiovascular routine in between upper arm exercises.

Core Blast  

Wednesday 11:45-12:15 noon

This 30 minute class will work your whole torso and is designed to improve your core strength. All levels are welcome and the class is progressive.

Pilates Progression    

*Tuesday 12:00-12:55pm

This Pilates progressive course starts at beginners level and will progress each week. The course will include standing, lying and side series work covering all aspects of Pilates.

Zumba     

*Tuesday 5:00-5:50pm

The infectious rhythms and simplified dance patterns of Zumba combine the dance styles of salsa, mambo, samba, bhangra, belly dance, flamenco, reggaeton, rhumba, calypso and hip hop, creating the ultimate body conditioning and fat burning session.

Hatha Yoga    

*Tuesday 5:00-6:00pm

Focus the mind and increase the flexibility of the body by using classical yoga and breathing techniques in a precise way to enhance the posture. Ideal yoga for the complete beginner.

Kettlebell     

Wednesday 12:30-1:30pm

Develop balance, strength and flexibility in this popular class. The course will revolve around breathing, pelvic and shoulder flexibility and restoration of the natural curves of the spine.

Zumba™ Toning     

Thursday 5:00-5:50pm

Using targeted body-sculpting exercises and high-energy cardio work with Latin-infused Zumba moves to create a calorie-torching, strength-training dance fitness-party.

Pilates Beginners    

Friday 12:00-12:55pm

Kettlebell

This focuses on the core using swing, snatch and jerk actions. Every single muscle is worked hard and develops endurance, aerobics capacity and strength..

Iyenga Yoga      

*Monday 5:00-6:30pm

Focuses on alignment and precision in the asanas (postures). Practice standing postures, forward bends, twists, inverted postures and yogic breathing to feel calmer, energized and alert.

Alexander Technique      

Wednesday 12:00-12:55pm

Find out how your mind and body is designed to work and learn ways to change harmful tensions into useful energy. It is an intelligent way to help you solve your body's problems..

Ashtanga Yoga      

Thursday 5:15-6:45pm

A powerful and challenging form of yoga, particularly recommended if you have experienced yoga before, or have a relatively high fitness level. Dynamic moves are used with constantly flowing repititive movements. Expect to leave the class feeling re-energised, lengthened and strong.

Posture Workshops

Try one of these brand new one-off workshops to help you improve your posture. Workshops will be held on selected Mondays during the final term.

Good Posture the Pilates Way      

Monday 12:00-12:55pm

This 55 minute workshop will take you through a series of simple exercise which will be beneficial to improving your posture and managing your aches and pains related to poor posture. You will take away ideas that you can incorporated on a daily basis.

How To Sit Without Back Pain      

Monday 12:00-12:55pm

The way you look after your posture and levels of tension at the desk has a huge impact on your levels of comfort or pain.
You don't get a choice whether to sit there or not, but you do get a choice about how you sit there. This short class will give
you some easy desk skills, based on the Alexander Technique, to keep your desk posture tip-top and pain-free.
