Celebrating Women in Sport and Fitness - Girls' Night In

Celebrating Women in Sport and Fitness – Girls’ Night In!

Sport and fitness has the ability to transform lives! At UoM Sport, we promote gender equality by encouraging teamwork, independence, resilience, and self-assurance in women, girls and those who identify as female.

On Sunday 5th February 2023, the UoM Sport team hosted their first female only event – Girls’ Night In! The aim of Girls’ Night In is to bring women together in a safe and welcoming environment to try new activities.

The whole Armitage Centre in Fallowfield was open for sport tasters, fitness classes and some fun games.

We also offered ‘Learn to Lift’ sessions for the first time, and they proved to be extremely popular! Under the guidance of qualified instructors, women were taught the basics of barbell squats, deadlifts and bench press. Going to the gym (especially the weights section) can be daunting for a lot of women so these sessions aimed to give women some basic lifting knowledge as well as the opportunity to meet like-minded friends.

What activities we had on offer:

  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • Netball
  • Dodgeball
  • Dance
  • Table Tennis
  • Zumba
  • Badminton

  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Karate
  • Spin
  • HIIT Step
  • Learn to Lift

Join us at our next Girls’ Night In event!

The event was a huge success, with over 160 women attending and all sessions reached maximum capacity. Due to high demand, we have already set a date for our next Girls’ Night In event – Sunday 19th March!

The general admission booking is now live! Book now on playwaze and we will send you a notification when the activity timetable is open for bookings.

Volunteer at Girls’ Night In!

Do you want to be part of this event but are not interested in taking part? You can sign up to volunteer with us! We require female volunteers to help us set up the centre and make the sessions run smoothly on the night.
