Sport Scholar, Jay Hebblethwaite, selected for GB Students

University of Manchester student, Jay Hebblethwaite, has been selected to represent Great Britain at the FISU World University Games 2023.

The games are taking place at Lake Placid from the 12th-22nd January. University students between the ages of 17 and 25 are eligible to enter. The Winter World University Games competition consists of twelve compulsory sports including Jay’s discipline, Freestyle Skiing.

Jay, who studies Mathematics and Computer Science, is an athlete on our Sport Scholarship programme. Speaking before the Games, Jay said:

“I’m really looking forward to being able to showcase my skiing abilities and tricks on the world stage. I relish the intensity of competition days because it allows me to put any fear behind me and focus on the big tricks I plan to do.”

 He went on to say:

“Being a part of the University of Manchester Sport Scholarship Programme has helped me through being able to access professional Strength and Conditioning and Physiotherapy services. Along with support being provided to allow me to continue to complete my studies whilst competing. Working with the Strength and Conditioning coaches has helped to develop strength and power in my lower body and core which allows me to produce and withstand the forces required to complete and land big flips. This has been hugely beneficial for my skiing.”

Jay will be competing from the 18th – 20th of January.
