UoM Sport awarded BUCS Physical Activity Excellence Accreditation
UoM Sport is accredited with national sector Excellence Award
UoM Sport have been successfully awarded the BUCS Physical Activity Excellence Award.
This award is an external accreditation overseen by BUCS as the governing membership body for higher education sport, which recognises excellence in the University’s approach to supporting students to get active whilst at Manchester. The application process involved a detailed written submission of our offer and impact from the previous reporting period and an interview with an external auditor, which was supported by a number of colleagues from across the team.
The award was presented to UoM Sport on Tuesday 12 December at BUCS’ Winter Summit and is judged on four key areas of our work:
- Strategy & Planning
- Insight & Research
- Partnerships & Collaboration
- Implementation & Delivery
‘Whilst we recognise there are always areas we can improve as a department, I am delighted that the University has been awarded this accreditation, which demonstrates the quality of opportunities we provide to support healthy and active lifestyles across Manchester.
This is a recognition of the huge effort put in by everyone across the team to deliver such a wide range of activities for our students, staff and local community. I want to thank every member of the UoM Sport team, our partners across the institution and local community, as well as all our coaches, instructors, and student leaders who work so hard to provide such fantastic opportunities.

The University of Manchester were one of only seven institutions to have achieved this accreditation this year and is one of only 17 in total to achieve this standard across the country at present. Examples of our best practice will now be made available for wider sector learning.
