Sporticipate Sessions

Our recreational sport offer is entitled Sporticipate, and is the entry level programme for all students and staff at The University of Manchester.

All sessions, programmes and events are open to all abilities, specifically people who are new to the activity or complete beginners. All sessions provide equipment and the sessions are facilitated by the UoM Sport Workforce.

Sportcipate runs a full weekly drop in timetable, structured blocks of ‘Learn To’ coached sessions and regular large scale events. All are either free or at very low cost, which helps you stay fit and active during your time on campus.

Sport League Sessions

Sport Leagues are a great way to play the sport you love in a friendly social environment. There are longstanding teams and sports that have a great tradition in the Campus Leagues which you can be part of. However, there is always space for new teams!

Our entries can come from societies, courses and halls entering competitions in addition to groups of friends coming together to forms teams to take part in our weekly activities.

Booking activities with friends

We have lots of availability across the day to play sports at our facilities across the city. You can book at our facilities at a time to suit you with a group of friends.

We have bookings for different activites at the Armitage Sports Centre or at Sugden Sports Centre giving you flexibility on when you play.  Facilities can be booked online for sessions but if you have any additional questions, you can contact the facilities for support.

Women’s Hockey Club

UMWHC is a #Purpleandproud club consisting of 5 outsanding competitive BUCS teams as well as our development team. With over 120 players the club continues to thrive to be the best. With our 1XI and 2XI playing nationwide to defend our winning streaks and yearly league promotions for every team we are showing our dominance on the hockey pitches.  We encourage participation and development, pushing everyone to their potential whilst also remaining a fun and sociable club. With a close link to the University of Manchester Men’s Hockey Club, we ensure that all members enjoy playing hockey with training and matches throughout the season. There is more to life than hockey but it’s a great place to start and we at UMWHC welcome all those who wish to play with open arms as we know there is a team for everyone with us at The Armitage.

Club Philosophy

UMWHC is an inclusive club for all females looking to play high level competitive hockey or trying out a completely new sport. We are a committed and dedicated group of women who are looking to grow as a club. Most importantly we aim to have fun whilst doing so. In recent years, UMWHC has seen many triumphs and we look to continue this in future seasons. Socially we are the largest female sports club and hold a social once a week to bring the club together. The club is built on the ideologies of team success and the benefit of hard work. In addition we offer umpiring and coaching qualification opportunities, as well as fitness training for all members. We continue to promote all players mental and physical strength within the club and we are proud to value each member, supporting their personal needs. Having also raised £2,000 for Manchester Mind this May with 10k runs from our homes, we are placing a great needed emphasis on raising awareness for charities close to our hearts.
