How physical activity can help during revision and exams

Academic focus and performance

  • Physical activity is linked to improved focus, memory and productivity in students

  • Active students report better engagement with learning and perceived academic attainment

Mental wellbeing and stress reduction

  • Regular activity reduces stress, anxiety and mental fatigue

  • Participation in physical activity is associated with improved overall mental wellbeing and resilience during high‑pressure periods

Time‑efficient movement for busy students

  • Short, regular bouts of movement (for example walking, stretching or quick workouts) are effective and realistic during revision

  • Consistent activity habits support better wellbeing and performance than infrequent long sessions

Outdoor and higher‑intensity activity

  • Outdoor activity provides additional benefits for mood and cognitive readiness

  • Moderate‑to‑vigorous activity, including brief HIIT sessions, can act as a mental and emotional reset
