Countdown to race day! All the important information you need.

We’re delighted to have you on board for the Purplewave as we prepare for the 10K event on 18 May! Your dedication and enthusiasm contribute to the vibrant spirit of this event, making it a memorable occasion for our university and the city of Manchester. We can’t wait to witness the sea of purple flooding the streets, embodying the unity and pride that define The University of Manchester.

Led by UoM Sport, the PurpleWave brings people together through fun activities and shared experiences. This is your one-stop shop for key info, updates, and tips to help you along the way. Don’t forget to wear your PurpleWave T-shirt on the day with pride!

This year’s focus is the 10K event; discounted half-marathon tickets will not be available through UoM Sport.

 

Physio offer for Purplewave runners 

We are delighted to have teamed up with the UoM Sport Physio team to be able to bring you these offers which start on the 1st May 2025

Physio workshops 

This series of workshops will focus on specific areas of the body that are common complaints in runners and provide some practical ideas to help prevent injury and maintain good joint health – through practical stability and mobility exercises that can be done at home or at work.

Key area to the sessions will be:-

  • Foot and Ankle  Friday 9th May 1pm – 2pm
  • Knee  Tuesday 13th May – 2pm – 3pm
  • Low-Back/Pelvis/Hip Thursday 15th May – 2pm – 3pm

These will run in the Wellbeing rooms in the Simon Building

YOUR 10K TRAINING GUIDE

Your token ( registration completion) and race number

All token emails have been sent out – if you have not completed your registration via the Great Run / Let’s do This Portal – please contact us on purplewave@manchester.ac.uk. 

If you have not redeemed you online token to confirm your place with Great Run please do this asap. Any token redemption after the 9th May will need to collect their race numbers next weekend from the Great Run Info Team will be in our red Great Run branded marquee at:    
Saturday: Great Northern Square     Time; 10:00am – 16:00pm      what3words:///proper.enable.after

Sunday: Outside the Library on St Peter’s Square   Time Open from 07:00am    what3words:///goals.short.dust 

(We encourage runners to come on the Saturday if they can, as we do expect to be busy on the Sunday)    

  • Please check all you inboxes, spam etc – for the email address which you registered with
  • email is from support@info.letsdothis.com
  • you will need to add ‘1’ in the product box
  • move to next page where your details will be populate 
  • add requested runner information
  • submit the form
  • once this has been done none of your details can be changed and you cannot give your place to anyone else
  • Your race number will be sent in the post direct from Great Run 

RACE NUMBERS

All registrations completed online before the 9th May will receive race number in the post direct from Great Run in time for the event.  Final week registration completions ( after 9th May) will need to collect their race numbers from the Information Point – 

Any runners who have not received race numbers can collect a replacement from the Information Point at the weekend

T-shirt collection

You can collect your T-shirt at the Students’ Union foyer between 11:30 pm and 1:30 pm on Thursdays throughout April and May 2025.

Note: You must have redeemed your token before you can collect your T-shirt. If you are unable to collect yourself you can send a friend or colleague to collect on your behalf.

Meet point

This year we will be going Purple and Orange and we all meet up at the Sugden Centre before the event. Access to the Purple / Orange hall will be available from 10:00am ( we will be leaving this venue at 11am for photos and walk to the start line) . In the hall, you will be able to access:

  • Changing rooms and toilets
  • Water
  • Baggage drop (closes for collection at 16:00)
  • Games area for warm up and chill out area for meeting friends
  • Meet your pacer – if you are aiming for a time 45 mins to 70 mins
  • Photos of the groups: 11:00 with departure to start line at 11:30 for our group line up and warm up

Start time

Our expected start time is 12:50 from Princess Street.

  • 11:00 – 11:30: Photos near Sugden.
  • 11:30 – 12:00: Walk to holding area.
  • 12:15 – 12:25: File onto start line area.
  • 12:25 – 12:45: Official wave warm up.
  • 12:50: Wave start time.
  • 16:00: Bag collection from Sugden closes.

Important: To receive your number and race park in the post before the event you MUST have redeemed your token online by the 9 May, 2025.
