Purplewave 10k – Celebrating 10 years
Countdown to race day! All the important information you need.
We’re delighted to have you on board for Purplewave as we prepare to celebrate 10 years of the 10K on 31 May 2026. Your dedication and enthusiasm help shape the vibrant spirit of this event, making it a memorable occasion for our university and the city of Manchester.
We can’t wait to see the streets come alive in a sea of purple, embodying the unity and pride that define The University of Manchester.
Led by UoM Sport, the PurpleWave brings people together through fun activities and shared experiences. This is your one-stop shop for key info, updates, and tips to help you along the way. Don’t forget to wear your PurpleWave T-shirt on the day with pride!
This year’s focus is the 10K event; discounted half-marathon tickets will not be available through UoM Sport.
Start time
- 12:15 – Assembly in holding pen (see location here).
- 12:25 – Warm up at Portland Street.
- 12:50: PURPLEWAVE STARTS.
Meet point
We will be hosting a meet point at the Sugden Sports Centre from 10:00 – 11:45 and taking our mass entry over collectively. The meet point will include:
- Music
- Physio massage
- Badminton
- Table Tennis
- Face paint
- Bag drop
Most people will meet us here, however you are able to come and meet us at the holding pen at 12:15 (see location here).
T-Shirt collection
You can collect your T-shirt at the Students’ Union foyer from 12:00 – 14:00 in the dates stated below.
- Thursday, 7th May.
- Wednesday, 13th May.
- Tuesday, 19th May.
- Tuesday, 26th May.

Please note:
- You must have redeemed your token before you can collect your T-shirt.
- If you are unable to collect this yourself, you can send a friend or colleague to collect it on your behalf.
- We have a large number of t-shirts avialable across a wide range of sizes, and we will do our best to acommodate everyone’s needs. Due to the high number of runners taking part, collecting your t-shirt early is the best way to guarantee your preferred size.
- We encourage runners from previous years to reuse their t-shirts if possible to support our commitment to sustainability.
Ticket sales
We still have some tickets left for the Purplewave event on 31 May 2026 if your friends would like to join. Share them this link and have them take part in the Purplewave!
Transfers of tickets
Unfortunately we are not able to refund any tickets for those who are no longer able to take part in the event.
If for any reason you are no longer able to take part in the race and want to pass you ticket on for someone else please add you details to this form. Once we have sold all the tickets we have available, if we have any further requests for tickets we will direct them to contact you on the email address provided.
Please note :
- That by adding your details to the form you agree to UoM Sport sharing your details with UoM members who are looking for Purplewave tickets.
- That only tickets which have NOT been redeemed can be transferred
If you already have a friend who you want to transfer your ticket to please complete this form, and UoM Sport will carry out the necessary changes. Please tell the new participant to look out for an email from Hello@letsdothis – in order to redeem their token and be fully entered into the event.
Transfer into the Purplewave
If you or anyone you know has purchased a full price ticket from Great Run you can still run with the Purplewave.
Although the deadline has passed for us to transfer you into the wave officially there are options
- If you have received your race pack and have been allocated into the GREEN or ORANGE waves we have been told by Great Run you will be able to join the Purplewave on the day of the event. Please check out all the details on this page about where and when we are meeting and out start time.
- If you have received your race pack and have been allocated into the PINK wave then you will need to attend one of the Great Run information points on the weekend of the event and ask to move into the Purplewave.

Your token/registration and race number
You should have received an email from Great Run via Let’s Do This (hello@letsdothis.com). The email will be titled “Claim your spot in AJ Bell Great Manchester Run 2026”. Please check all your inboxes, including spam and junk folders.
Once received, you must complete the form to fully register for your place. Once this is complete, you will receive your race number from Great Run by post to your address. Please note that this may take some time, so we ask for your patience during the process. Once you have completed this process, numbers cannot be transferred.
If you wish to change/correct your name, please message support@greatrun.org after you have completed the registration.
Volunteering
