UoM Sport

Athletic Union

The aim of Athletic Union is to facilitate opportunity and success in competitive sport, as measured by performance in BUCS Championships, the Christie Championship and the regional based student and local league competitions.

We have 89 teams across 36 sports, separated into 42 different clubs. Each of these sports clubs are run by students, for students, with funding and support from the UoM Sport department.

To ensure that the direction and leadership of sport at Manchester always has a student voice, we have a student executive committee who work alongside the sports department and have input into decision making and the organising events.

The “Sports Sabbatical Officer” is a recent UoM graduate who is the head of the executive committee is a full time member of staff who must have graduated from Manchester in the last 12 months.

The Executive Committee for 2018/19 consist of the following posts:

  • Sports Sabbatical Officer - Lizzie O'Connor (Staff)
  • XXI Club and Alumni Liaison Officer - Conor O'Brien (Volunteer)
  • Marketing Officer - Milly Stabler (Volunteer)
  • British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) representative - Jason Hui (Volunteer)
  • Events officer - Bethany Hogg (Volunteer)
  • Communication Officer - Emma Mallett (Volunteer)

To pull on the official Athletic Union kit and represent the University playing sport is a true privilege. The commitment shown by our AU club members is highlighted constantly through our official hashtag #PurpleandProud
